Decompression

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine, using a motorized table, with the goals of relieving pain and promoting an optimal healing environment for bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs.

By decompressing the spine, a negative intradiscal pressure is created and it promotes retraction or repositioning of the herniated or bulging disc material.

It also creates a lower pressure in the disc that will cause a rush of healing nutrients and other substances within the disc.

There are two different ways in which we can do Spinal Decompression here at Healing Arts Center. Lumbar disc decompression will help with issues in the low back while Cervical disc decompression helps alleviate issues in the neck.

With lumbar disc decompression therapy, a harness is placed around the hips and is attached to the lower table near the feet, while another harness is placed just under the rib cage and is attached to the upper part of the table near the head. The upper part of the table remains in a fixed position while the lower part slides back and forth to provide the decompression and relaxation.

For cervical disc decompression therapy, the head is laid on a device that will slightly tighten around the base of the neck and a strap that will lay across the forehead. The device that the head is laying on will be what slides as the decompression table is working.

Spinal Decompression Therapy is an effective treatment for herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome and spinal stenosis.
